Gadget for gridders.

I found a gadget for gridders !!!
It's something you can put between you, the artist, and your subject....
be it a live model or a still life.
You can also use this if you're using photograph for your references.
The nice thing about this is that you don't need to draw those ugly, time-consuming grids on your paper/canvas.
I believe it's even more helpful in making one a better artist than using grid.
The traditional grids just help one see what's inside the square and not the whole image.

I'm introducing the www.accurasee.com
I saw this in the recent art expo I attended.
I felt bad for the guy selling it 'coz I didn't buy the kit..
that's why I'm just helping him promote the product 'coz I believe it's going to help.

And maybe I should post this under LINK.
It's up to you, Bud, whether you take this down or not.
I'm open to criticisms...keep them coming.

does that dude sell pencils that u can draw with too, and erasers that can erase graphite? That tool is revolutionary. Who could have imagined he could invent something so useful? He must be charging at least 100 dollars for this set of tools. He talks so eloquently about them in his video too. I'm sold...where do i get a set?

You can just set a grid in photoshop or Microsoft word, and print on clear paper. Thats how I use my grids, and its free.

Hooray for free gridding! Or as I like to call it, gridding for the masses!

Re: Gadget for gridders.

Hi. My name's Bjorn Thorkelson...and I'm the creator of the Accurasee System :D

Thanks Jason, for bringing this up. Just thought I'd throw in my two cents : What I really wanted to clarify is the difference between gridding and the Accurasee Measurement System which I've spent the last three years developing and refining. The fact is, when we use the gridding system, we're basically copying what's in squares. Now, I have no problem with that, but we're not learning to see the entire picture. The Accurasee system is simply a measurement system that helps to find "landmarks" and avoid overall distortion. It's not some kind of magical system which is going to help you draw the perfect eye, but it will help you to find the right spot to place the eye and help you to make the eye the right size in relation to the rest of the head. In fact...the eye we draw may be totally lame, but at least it's the right size and in the right place :)

In my opinion, both the grid system and the Accurasee system have there place, but they are totally unique. For one, The Accurasee system can be used from life. Also, one does not make a grid on their paper using my measurement system. In a nutshell, the Accurasee System is used to help the artist count off unit measurements and align important features. That's all...the rest is up to the artist.

If your interested, there are two brand new videos that can be found:
http://www.accurasee.com/demo.html

You can see some of my work here:
http://www.gbjorn.com/

As with any method, it's not for everyone, but this system has helped me to draw more accurately...even when I'm not using the system. It's also helped many of my students understand what it actually takes to draw accurately...measurements and alignments. The fact is you can do these things without Accurasee...it's just harder to be precise.

Re: Gadget for gridders.

Hey no worries Bjorn and please don't take my lack of taste in humor personally. I think gridding is a great asset to anyone who's into drawing, I just personally don't understand how this can be better than printing the grids yourself (which is more accurate than drawing them in your sketch pad). I probably shouldn't comment any further though as I only looked at the images and didn't read too far into the site. I wish you the best of luck with your product.

Re: Gadget for gridders.

No problem, Jason. I totally understand why if only looking at the photos you would think gridding...that's the tough thing about marketing this product is the preconceived notions about gridding in general.

The key statement you made was drawing them in the sketch pad. Using my system, there is no drawing of the grid...it's not gridding at all. It's a numbering system for measurement of relative distances. If anyone really wants to know, a short investigation will clarify things I think.

Good luck.

Re: Gadget for gridders.

I actually purchased the Accurasee measurement system at the Pasadena art show a few months back and it has been a big help to me. Bjorn's videos on his website have helped me to understand how the system works and it's definitely not gridding. You use the kit to help measure more accurately, not to draw square by square. All artists measure in order to keep everything in proportion; Bjorn has just devised a way to use the tools in the kit to measure more accurately. I've been sharing this product with other artists because it can really help; and while it may not be for everyone, it can absolutely help those who give it a chance and take the time to understand how it's used.

Just my two cents....
