Re: Hugh Laurie

You've done an excellent job fixing up the scruff. Whenever I make a blunder like that in CP it's more or less permanent. I spent hours on my Tom Morello drawing trying to fix one little patch where I accidentally picked up the wrong colour and started shading lightly. It took at least 20 layers to "kinda" cover it up.

Phenomenal work so far... can't wait to see it finished!

Man this is awesome. I need to find a way to show this to my dad. He looks kind of like Hugh and he also loves the show House. I get my artistry from him. I think he would really like this.

I finally got "hip" with the times and got on facebook. Hopefully this takes you directly to my art.

Re: Hugh Laurie

Okay I hope this works: I made a short video of myself drawing with CPs, I recorded it with my laptop (so technically that's my right hand not left) and uploaded it to YouTube. I had to speed it up because it was too long. But I hope this will help anybody who wants to try CPs.

Re: Hugh Laurie

Great video! wow - that's a lot of layering. So are all your CP drawings done on black? I'm just wondering if the white crayon makes it easier to blend the layers or not... how long did that 6 min video take in real time? The pic is bigger than I thought it was too lol

Re: Hugh Laurie

Well most of my recent CPs are done on grey illustration board (which is 15"x20"). I really like this board b/c it can take alot of layers and is sturdy enough that I don't need to tape it down to a board. The white colored pencil is just to give the skin luminosity against the grey board. As for blending, i use so many layers that it just blends as I go layer over layer, but you could also use a colorless blender to blend.

This video was originally 16min long so i guess it's almost 3 times fast.

This is exactly how I draw with CP. I guess I've just never explained it as well or made a video. Go Bravocc!

Re: Hugh Laurie

It looks pretty cool, I tried CP 1 time, and failed, but it was crayolas I'm sure I should have been able to better than I did still though lol. :)
Don't judge a book by it's cover , open it up and read it.

Re: Hugh Laurie

The green lady in my art section of facebook was done in crayola. I was in high school and I wasn't really trying to create depth, so don't laugh to hard. However, I thought it was pretty good for crayola. I bet I could make a decent piece of art with crayola. It's just that with those cheap pencils the wax rises above the pigment eventually. This makes the picture looks cloudy and white. You have to rub off the wax with a tissue to bring it back to life. Soooo you could never really frame it.

Re: Hugh Laurie

Another update, Sorry about the crappy picture I had to take it with my laptop
Image
Just an eyebrow and the hair left. I'm hoping to finish it tonight so I'll post the finished piece tomorrow (this time with a good camera)

The first time I used CP was also with Crayola's --> Image
they are just horrible to blend with, but hey, they were cheap

Mine never had any life to begin with. :D I seen on a youtube video of a guy using alcohol on cotton swabs to blend the CP, but found out it doesn't work on Crayolas or at least didn't for me, if I ever attempt it again I will make sure I have prismas. :)
